St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center and North Country Community College Announce Internship
St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center welcomes North Country Community
College sophomore Emilee Murray of Norwood, N.Y. as the recipient of a
paid internship underwritten by the Saranac Lake Rotary and a generous
donor from a member of the Saranac Lake community.
St. Joseph’s CEO, Bob Ross, believes the internship provides for an effective
collaboration between St. Joseph’s and NCCC and also identifies St. Joseph’s
as a community resource for those choosing careers in the addiction field. “St.
Joseph’s has an important goal as a member of the Saranac Lake community
to create viable opportunities for young people to remain in the community,“ Ross says.
The goals of the program include providing the intern exposure to actual clinical
scenarios through a variety of assignments as well as the longer-term objective
of attracting qualified interns to pursue careers at St. Joseph’s and become
permanent members of the Saranac Lake community.
The faculty selected Emilee based on her academic achievement, her professor
recommendations, and her communication skills.
“The program will help me better prepare for my future in the field of
chemical dependency counseling,” she says. “I’m the first person
to receive the scholarship so we’re going to be able to build the program
from the beginning.”
Dr. Gail Rice, President of NCCC expressed, “We’d like to congratulate
Emilee for being chosen as the first intern at St. Joseph’s, and we’d
also like to thank St. Joseph’s for this opportunity. This is a wonderful
way for students to learn and we’re looking forward to a closer relationship
with St. Joseph’s.”
Matt Theis, acting President of the Saranac Lake Rotary says, “This is
an opportunity for all three of our organizations to get involved and together
serve the community.”
Suzanne Goolden, St. Joseph’s Inpatient Services Director believes the
internship represents an investment in the future, “As we move forward
with this endeavor, we'll be able to provide NCCC students with non-clinical
majors an opportunity to gain exposure to a professional work environment and
to obtain valuable life experience.”
