St. Joseph’s Counselor and Saranac Lake Native Honored
For 15 years Saranac Lake’s Bud Ziolkowski has served the men, women and families seeking help at
St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center. On September 30, Addictions Professionals Day, he was selected by the
New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as the 2006 – 2007 CASAC
(Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) of the Year as one who exemplifies excellence and q
uality service in the filed of addiction recovery. This honor is bestowed upon a CASAC who has earned widespread
recognition from peers and whose work reflects the highest level of professional conduct and dedication to serving
those suffering from alcoholism and/or substance abuse.
Since 1999 Bud has overseen services at St. Joseph’s outpatient clinics and under his stewardship,
the number of visits at each site has increased which means more people are receiving the help they need.
He has also piloted programs with both the Essex and Franklin County Jails and serves as what he likes to
call “the voice of treatment” for the Essex County Drug Court. For his fellow CASCs, he has developed
professional training programs on counselor wellness, basic counseling techniques, working with resistant
clients, working with criminal justice clients, and clinical supervision.
He serves on several community advisory boards including the Franklin County DSS Advisory Board, the Essex County
Community Board, the North Country Community College Human Services Department Advisory Board, the St. Lawrence
Addiction Treatment Center Advisory Board, and the Northern Tier Providers Coalition.
Bud is one of the many dedicated professionals who assist the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement ministry as
they heal wounds, unite what has fallen apart, and bring home those who have lost their way. |
